Rhode Island requires substitute teachers to hold a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Background Check
All substitute teacher applicants in Rhode Island must undergo a criminal background check, including national fingerprint-based checks through the BCI and FBI. Results are reviewed by RIDE as part of the certification process. Applicants with certain criminal convictions may be denied certification. Background checks must be current before a substitute may be placed in a classroom.
Age Requirements

Application Process
